March 18, 2011-Washington DC
2011年3月18日 ワシントンDCA charity drive was held during an international fair in the student dormitories of the Washington Center. The event was hosted by a group of young volunteers from the Japanese nonprofit organization TABLE FOR TWO (TFT). The group is usually focused on programs and events to tackle world hunger and health issues related to over-nutrition, but this day they came together to raise funds to donate to the relief efforts in Japan.

During the fair the Chinese and Taiwanese students suprised the TFT volunteers by presenting a song in their language. The song was called “手牽手” meaning “Let’s hold hands together” in English. It was a song that was sung frequently after the 1999 Taiwan Earthquake.

After two hours of fund-raising, the donation amounted to $218.91. The students, who usually try to save every penny when they can, were so generous in supporting the cause. We very much felt their love towards Japan.

The collected funds will be sent to the U.S.-Japan Council Earthquake Relief Fund specially set up by the U.S.-Japan Council to support the nonprofit organizations and non-governmental organizations in their relief efforts in Japan.
